Our mission at Bright Art Studio is to empower families to create. We aim for joy in the process and pride in the finished product. Art-making is a beautiful balance of expressing oneself, growing in skills, and connecting with others. Our goal is not only to guide our artists in art-making, but also to teach them how to engage with the art produced by others.
Bright Art Studio is owned and operated by Laura K. Maxwell, a practicing artist, art educator, and mama. Laura has always enjoyed engaging with art, which is why she pursued a bachelor’s in Art History and then a master’s in Art Education. It was while teaching art to elementary students full-time that she really found her own artistic voice. Those young, uninhibited artists inspired her. She would go home from work with a thirst to create that she hadn’t felt before. Laura now creates charming hand-drawn illustrations for use as greeting cards, home decor, coloring books, and gift items. You can learn more about her own work on her artist website.
Laura is originally from Texas, and has lived in southwest Portland since 2014. In 2016 she become a mom and stepped away from teaching to spend time at home with her son. In that time, she continued to create and grow her personal art business. Laura loves creating art with her son, and soon realized she missed leading young artists in a classroom setting. That led her to the creation of Bright Studio. When she’s not creating or teaching, you will probably find her on a hike or a run, or snuggled in a chair with a novel and coffee.
